Google has long been driving the roads of the world to capture images, but for the first time it’s taken to the rails to bring the Swiss Alps to its Street View service.

In a video published by Google today, the company shows how its special cameras were mounted onto a train to traverse the Albula-Bernina line from Thusis, Switzerland through mountainous terrain to Tirano in Italy.

The imagery hasn’t yet been released into Google Maps for you to play with (it’s promised soon) but it’s sure to be a fun distraction when it does. Not only will you get to explore some of Europe’s most beautiful scenery, you’ll also (if the mood takes you) be able to pretend you’re a train driver as you follow the tracks through the alps… or maybe that was just my childhood self breaking out for a minute there.
