Killed By Google is a digital graveyard of the company’s dead products

April 2, Google is killing two of its well-known products: it’s failed social network, Google+, and the much-loved email client, Inbox. They join a long list of products that the Mountain View-based tech giant has killed. So, a clever developer just made a “digital graveyard” to list all of the company’s discontinued products in one place.

The open source site, made by front-end developer Cody Ogden, lists 149 dead Google products in total: 129 services, 11 apps, and 12 hardware products. That’s a lot for a 21-year-old firm!

Browsing the site feels like a nostalgic trip down memory lane, with columns of revered products like Orkut, the Nexus series of phones, and Google Reader detailed along with their date of expiry. It also serves as a reminder about Google’s strategy of launching products as experiments and killing them off later.

Update (25 January, 2022 12:50PM IST): Google has killed many products including social network Google+, email app Inbox, Play Movies and TV, and local networking app Neighborly since we wrote this story. Its latest entrant in this list is the celebrity Q&A app Cameos. The app had more than 50,000 downloads, and according to an email sent to its users, will shut down on February 17, 2022
