Kanye album launch pushes Tidal to the top US app, now he’s begging Mark Zuckerberg for cash

Kanye album launch pushes Tidal to the top US app, now he’s begging Mark Zuckerberg for cash

It seems to have been a bit of a rollercoaster weekend for Kanye.

Having just launched his album exclusively on pal Jay-Z’s streaming platform Tidal, pushing the app to the top of the US App Store, you’d think he might be content to kick back.

However, ahead of his album launch news, he’d already started on a weird appeal for help with his clearly faltering career, from none other than Mark Zuckerberg.

He even claimed to be “this generation’s Disney,” before changing tack.

Although new Tidal downloads might not directly translate into subscribers, Jay-Z’s streaming service was already the fifth highest-grossing music app in the world in December.

Given that he’s also secured exclusive deals with the likes of Kanye, Rihanna and Beyonce, he’s not exactly begging for great partnerships to boost his app’s success.

Kanye, meanwhile, has a pretty successful music career, and probably the most famous wife in the world, so it’s really not clear what else he really needs either.

Either way, the desperate public plea to the tech gods on the day of his album launch likely won’t have done his sales figures any harm.
