Running iOS 10? Follow these 3 steps to save a life

Among all the improvements Apple made in iOS 10, one of the most important is also one of the most overlooked.

By tapping a few buttons, you have the chance to save a life — by becoming an organ donor.

You just need to follow these three steps:ios 10

  1. Go to the Health app on your phone
  2. Tap Medical ID
  3. Register to become an organ donor

Yes, it’s that easy. Your registration is handled by Donate Life America, and you’re now potentially saving the lives of a bunch of people.

When you decide to donate your organs, you could save up to eight lives. According to DLA, donating your cornea or skin tissue could restore the sight of two people; your skin could go towards improving the lives of up to 50 people.

When Facebook launched a similar registration system back in 2012 it encouraged thousands of people to sign up. Unfortunately, the program was pulled in the end because registration was based on a complex per-state system. Now that DLA has a national register up and running, it’s made much easier.

In the US alone there are over 130,000 people waiting for an organ, and with the power to help them at your fingertips, there’s no real reason not to do it anymore.

The signup only works in the US for now, but you can find more info to become a donor in your country right here.
