Foodspotting, one of the most popular social foodie apps, began in 2009 when cofounders Alexa Andrzejewski, Ted Grubb and Soraya Darabi put their heads together to address what they felt was a lack of proper food reviewing apps.
Foodspotting celebrated its one-year anniversary this January and boasts over 600,000 iPhone app users and the equivalent in website visits. It also has an Android app in beta and $3 million in Series A funding plus a $750,000 seed round.
Now Foodspotting is expanding rapidly, including upcoming partnerships with Seamless Web, Open Table and BBC America. Soraya took the stage at Tech Crunch Disrupt yesterday as a startup rally judge. What does it take to run a startup? “Enthusiasm and an ability to work from anywhere,” she says.
