Interior shots are now live for some Google Places businesses. Google asking for more.

Interior shots are now live for some Google Places businesses. Google asking for more.

A few months ago we told you about Google starting a project that would add interior shots of businesses that are listed in Google Place. The first of those, according to the Google Lat Long Blog, have rolled out today:

…business owners located in the U.S., Australia and Japan could invite our photographers into their establishments to take high-quality images of their businesses. Excitement from interested business owners grew quickly, and we’ve since taken photos of businesses in about 30 cities.

Though the photos won’t be immediately available for all businesses, they should be rolling out in the next couple of weeks. According to Google, the idea is to give a better experience from the search function. For instance, if you’re looking for a first date venue, you’d have a much better experience from seeing photographs of the inside of a restaurant than you would from simply seeing a Street View image.

Google is reminding businesses, however, that they can upload their own photos by signing into their Google Places page. While it might not be shot by a professional, it’s at least a leg up on a business who hasn’t taken the chance to do so.

Still want to get in on the Google photography sessions? It’s apparently not too late. You’ll need to sign up, and you could be seeing a photographer inside your business soon.
