Well, this was unexpected. Betaworks CEO John Borthwick has quietly unveiled Instapaper Daily, a sparse news site which highlights the most widely read stories on its cross-platform ‘save it for later reading’ service.
It’s an elegant site, with a timeline running along the bottom of the screen so that you can easily jump to another day in the year. In the center of the page is a brief summary of the article, with a headline, photo, opening stanza and a link to its original source. Better yet, the site also has a convenient ‘Read Later’ button so you can easily add it to your Instapaper queue.
If you’re only interested in a certain type of journalism, such as technology, sports or politics, you can see the most popular stories for each of them in turn using the tabs at the top of the page. It’s been quite a year, so if you’re feeling nostalgic Instapaper Daily is a lovely way to look back at some of the biggest news stories and features from 2013.
