After its billion dollar purchase, Facebook mostly took a hands-off approach to Instagram, but today’s addition of a notification tab for the Web application is decidedly Zuckerberg-esque.

The update is currently live and it’s an interesting one because, to date, Instagram has kept its Web app as a mostly view-only addition while forcing users to rely on the mobile app for editing and sharing.

Facebook pulled a similar move with another of its acquired properties, WhatsApp, by rolling out a website for desktop users just last year.

That’s not to say you should expect the Web version to take center stage anytime soon, but it’s obvious the team is looking to make improvements where possible for its desktop users.

Now if we could just post content like we can with the mobile version.
