Instagram has made a much-needed addition to its platform. According to a blog post, the company says that users will finally get to see view counts on their videos within the next few weeks.
View counts will appear for videos where users would normally see the number of Likes. If you’d prefer to see how many people Liked your video, you will be able to tap the counter and it will switch to give you that information.
It’s a much-needed data point that will probably sit very well with the platform’s power users, who up until this point had no idea how much reach or impact their individual videos had beyond the more ambiguous ‘Likes’ metric.
As Instagram moves from just photos to even more multimedia, it’s in its best interest to provide the analytics that incentivize content generation and quality. The company also hinted that this was the “first of many” ways Instagram’s video offerings will “get better” this year, so there might be even more exciting news down the road.
Instagram did not specify where the roll-out is targeted, or how long the process will take.
