David Bowie was revolutionizing pop culture before social media was even a thought and now, even after his death, his influence is continuing.
A new Instgram mini-series inspired by the music of Bowie’s final album ‘Blackstar’ will kick off February 25 at 8PM (ET) on the photo-sharing platform.
Titled ‘UNBOUND: A ★ InstaMiniSeries,’ the 16 episodes were shot with Bowie’s seal of approval after he gave creators Carolynn Cecilia and Nikki Borges unmediated access to the album and its artwork prior to release, so they could come up with visual interpretations for each track.
According to Cecilia and Borges, Bowie saw the Instagram project as “an exciting new platform to explore interpretation of and storytelling within his music.”
‘Blackstar’ was released by Bowie on January 8, after the Instagram mini-series was completed and just two days before his death. It quickly shot to number one around the world.
The InstaMiniSeries is hoping to give it a new lease of life. Its creators have said the project will take the audience “on a journey of evocative images inspired by the moods suggested in the album’s music, lyrics and artwork.”
Following the premiere on February 25, each new episode will go live at 8PM (ET) every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for three weeks.
