Facebook Live has been used for all sorts of things, from birds to terrorists down to the aftermath of a policeman’s rage. Now it’s been taken to prison.
In the video (obtained exclusively by Pix11), we’re met with the worst possible scenario for life at Rikers Island Prison in New York. Conditions are terrible, and whoever is streaming has a weapon.
Now out of jail, the former inmate told Pix11 “The officers feel we have no say, no rights, no freedom of speech.” That was his reasoning for sneaking an iPhone into jail (and we don’t want to know how that was accomplished) to livestream his time inside.
He claims that he wanted to shed light on unsafe conditions in Rikers Island as well. Pix11 reports that incidents of assault at Rikers have skyrocketed recently.

A spokesperson for the New York State Department of Corrections says the person responsible for the video has been arrested for making it, and faces “a serious charge.”
