Imagineers: Booking.com’s COO on revolutionizing the way we travel

What do you call people who are stretching the limits of their imaginations to engineer a new future? At The Next Web, we went with imagineers.

We want to offer our favourite entrepreneurs and pioneers a platform to share the visions and insights that will shape our future, which is why, each week, we’ll present you with an exclusive episode of Imagineers.

Produced in partnership with the City of Amsterdam, each episode captures one person’s thought-provoking talk against the backdrop of TNW’s beloved home city, where rich history and culture go hand-in-hand with innovation and progression – just the right place for TNW Conference.

In this eighth episode, Booking.com‘s Chief Operating Officer Gillian Tans tells us how the company’s consumer and data-driven culture has enabled it to grow from a small team of dedicated individuals into a global travel empire, serving more than 200 countries.

Since she started working at the company back in 2002, a lot has changed in the world of travel, with Booking.com being one of the key players in innovating how we plan and pay for our trips. Did you know that Tans’ team was the first to introduce customer reviews to a travel booking site? Watch the video for more interesting facts!

If you like this video, you’ll love our line-up for TNW Conference in May, which includes Booking.com & Priceline Group CEO Darren Huston, and Uber advisor & former Booking.com CEO Kees Koolen. Click here for more info.
