The generally positive reaction from pundits about IE9 Beta, as well as sites like Never Mind The Bullets that show off IE9’s hardware acceleration, have most likely helped account for the 6 million downloads of the new browser in just two weeks.

According to the Windows Blog, that 6 million is 2.5 times more downloads than the first beta for IE8 received, and that at present, Net Applications says that IE9 has 0.25% of overall browser share already. As we previously reported 2 million of those downloads happened in the first two days.

Microsoft also pointed out that IE8 had a slight increase in market share in September, while IE7 and IE6 continue to decline. Also interestingly, Microsoft is reporting that Beauty of the Web – where you can download IE9 Beta – has received 30 million hits since launching.
