US film & TV streaming platform Hulu announced today on its official blog that it will be offering new original and exclusive content in 2013. All shows will be available on Hulu.com and on the Hulu Plus subscription service.
Hulu has already distributed 25 original and exclusive series over the last two years (see our previous post). During 2013’s late summer, it will start adding new original titles to its catalogue, such as docu-series ‘Behind the Mask,’ animated series ‘The Awesomes’ and comedic thriller ‘The Wrong Mans,’ its second co-production with the BBC.
In addition, it will also feature several exclusive series starting this month, such as French cop thriller ‘Braquo’, ‘Mother Up!’ featuring Eva Longoria, britcoms ‘Pramface’ and ‘Fresh Meat,’ as well as the second and fourth seasons of Israeli series ‘Prisoners of War’ and reality drama ‘The Only Way is Essex.’
As you may remember, Hulu CEO Jason Kilar announced a few days ago that he would be stepping down during the first quarter of 2013, alongside CTO and SVP Rich Tom. Both had been with the company from day one, but rumors had been predicting Kilar’s departure for the last few months.
In this context, it is interesting to see that Hulu is still pushing original content, as some were wondering if this was a bone of contention with its backers. Hulu is a joint venture of News Corp.’s Fox, Disney-ABC, NBCUniversal, although the latter isn’t involved in Hulu’s strategy due to its own acquisition by Comcast.
