How and when the world shares socially according to AddThis [Infographic]

After 5 years, AddThis is now the largest content sharing platform on the web with over 10 million websites using it. AddThis compiles sharing analytics over the course of its use in order to offer insights to publishers on how and what people share online.

Now with five full years of analytics on social sharing data, AddThis shot over an info graphic illustrating just when users decide to share, what services they are more likely to share to, and where in the world people are sharing from.

It should be noted that the information below does not reflect all of social sharing online, but rather, what has been shared through AddThis’s service alone.

Social sharing results from AddThis

Of the 1.2 billion people using AddThis to share content, the peak amount of sharing occurs at 9:30AM EST, typically on a Wednesday. Clicks usually happen about 2 minutes after content has been posted, which probably means users are actually taking a minute or two to skim and digest the material before deciding to spread it amongst their networks. Always a good sign.

Twitter appears to be the most popular method of sharing as it’s grown by 35,356% in the past 5 years, while Facebook’s Like takes second place at 5,809%, with other bookmarking sites like LinkedIn, StumbleUpon and Tumblr trailing behind. Sites like iGoogle, AOL’s Lifestream and MySpace are trending downwards in sharing, perhaps indicating that these services are becoming obsolete.
