Historical rewind: This video of the building of the Golden Gate Bridge will blow your mind

It’s a holiday here in the States, so if you are online, the chances are that you’re taking a break from a BBQ-centered orgy of consumption. Allow TNW to entertain you for a few minutes, with the great story of the building of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The Atlantic found a clip, via the extremely useful Prelinger Archive, produced the by Bethlehem steel company, who had a great role in the bridge’s construction. It’s about 10 minutes long, and is, ahem, riveting all the way through. The level of technology that is employed appears primitive, but the results endure to this day.

In the clip, hard hats are called out as a big, nice, security precaution, for example. And yet the Golden Gate is a symbol of the United  States, and an enduring tourist destination. Enjoy the clip, and enjoy Memorial Day:

Also, happy 75th birthday, Golden Gate Bridge.
