How adblocking apps on iOS 9 will work (if Apple approves them)


Apple’s upcoming iOS 9 will include support for adblocking apps, thanks to a new API that removes elements from Web views. Developer Chris Aljoudi is making use of the new feature in Purify, an upcoming app that blocks ads on Web pages and YouTube videos.

The clip above shows Purify in action as it prevents various kinds of ads from loading in Safari on a beta version of iOS 9.

Aljoudi, who is the developer behind uBlock, the popular open-source adblocking extension for Google Chrome, says that Purify will launch this fall. However, it’s not yet clear if Apple will actually allow such apps.
