Happn’s new feature makes it easier to set up IRL dates

Happn’s new feature makes it easier to set up IRL dates

Dating app Happn will soon get a new feature that will make it easier for its users to meet up in person.

Called ‘See You There’, the feature lets you post on your dating profile what you’ll be doing over the next few hours so other people can join you. Activities will range from grabbing a bite, to going for a run or catching a movie.

Although the app won’t reveal the location of any activities planned for safety reasons, ‘See You There’ will work as an additional way to find new ‘Crushes’ –  Happn’s version of a match.

This means that once you cross paths with other like-minded people, Happn will immediately connect you and let you have a quick chat to possibly arrange a meeting.

To use the new feature, users can tap the (+) button on the bottom of their home screens and choose from one of Happn’s various activities. Once selected, the activity will be visible to other users for the next for hours.

CEO and founder Didier Rappaport said the app’s new component is designed “to allow people to meet as they would on any given day – during regular daily activities – whether at a party, at work or at the gym.”

Following recent backlash Tinder faced for testing a new group-meeting feature that apparently outed people as Tinder-users to fellow Facebook friends without a warning, it will be interesting to see how ‘See You There’ will resonate with Happn’s users.

While it might not be the most original feature, ‘See You There’ will at least offer the world of online dating one more alternative to finding a soulmate according to criteria other than one’s looks.

The updates will arrive next Tuesday.
