We recently heard that Google was planning to drop the Nexus moniker for its Android-based hardware. It seems like there’s more to that than just a rebranding effort.

According to Android Police, Google is gearing up to host an event on October 4, where it will announce several new products: Two smartphones – dubbed the Pixel and Pixel XL – a 4K-capable Chromecast dongle, and a Daydream VR viewer.

In addition, the company is also expected to share more details about its Google Home voice-activated speaker that’s powered by Google Assistant and supports Cast for streaming audio. The device was first announced in May at the company’s IO developer conference, but we haven’t heard much about it since.

Pixel and Pixel XL are most likely the names for the HTC-built handsets codenamed Sailfish and Marlin; their specifications were leaked in June and a tipster shared information in July about the design of one of the devices. In July, we also heard that Google was working on a Daydream-based VR headset and it looks we might finally get a chance to see what the company’s been up to on that front next month.
