Google rolled out its new commenting platform for YouTube earlier this month. Today it revealed that the new system introduced a rise in comment spam — but a number of updates have been rolled out to deal with the issue.
YouTube has improved its recognition technology for bad links and impersonation attempts, made its ASCII art detection better, and changed how long comments are displayed for.
It looks like Google is ignoring the backlash from disgruntled users who object to being forced to connect their profile with a Google+ account in order to continue commenting.
Next up: Google promises to release tools for bulk comment moderation on YouTube. It says it is also working on improving comment ranking and moderation of old-style comments.
