Android users will soon be able to download podcasts directly from Google Play. The company is getting ready to open a portal directly in Google Play Music.
Currently, podcasters are able to upload to the Google Play hub, but none are available for playback just yet. Play Music users will reportedly be able to play podcasts in a few weeks’ time.
Speaking to Re/Code, Google Play Music product manager Elias Roman said “Podcasts allow us to do everything for our users. It makes us a more complete concierge.”
While not as direct an affront to third-party podcasting apps as Apple’s ‘Podcasts’ app is, this move will undoubtedly ruffle a few feathers. It could also invigorate podcasts on Android, which could boost the medium. Google says more info on podcasts via Play Music will be available in the “coming months.”
