Finding information about the easiest routes to travel is part of what makes Google Maps an invaluable source for many of us. But navigating the layers is, often times, a real pain int he butt. According to the Google LatLong blog, the team at Maps is hoping to eliminate that hassle with the integration of a handy new widget in the top right of your map.
From the widget, you’ll be able to select any layers that are available in your chosen map view. Instead of having to decipher icons or find the right checkboxes, the new widget keeps things simple and plainly in view.
When we launched Google Maps, we had one layer — the map. Since then, we’ve added more than ten different ways to explore the world around you, including photos, transit and traffic information, as well as satellite and terrain views. We’ve now updated the design so that you can more easily see and switch between the various viewing options that are available.
Taking the information overload problem head on is a smart move for the Maps team, in this case. While the insight that Maps provides is amazing, sifting through all of it can be a pain in the index finger by the time you’re said and done.
