Google is looking for an SEO expert. A new job posting for a “Program Manager, Search Engine Optimization” was spotted on the Google job board today, and it’s got everyone scratching their heads.
First, let’s check out the job description:
As a Program Manager for Technical SEO, you will work with cross-functional teams across Marketing, Sales, Product Development, Engineering and more to help drive organic traffic and business growth. You will take part in website development and optimization, help shape blog and social strategy, improve website code hygiene and define web architecture for international websites.
Google — which probably has more control over SEO than any other entity around — needs someone to help with SEO. It’s worth considering this is a placeholder position, there only to satisfy regulators who consider Google’s existing practices questionable.
It could also highlight how tricky SEO really is, or that Google is taking its recent legal lessons to heart and creating a fair search platform where even it needs help.
The requirements for the job are pretty basic (education, experience, that sort of thing), but don’t forget you’ll also need a really good sense of irony to apply.
