Google is putting its best foot forward for those accessing its Places API. To provide better search results, the Places API is now integrated with Maps results.
Developers have been requesting that the Places API search results more closely resemble those from Maps, so Google is replacing the type restriction parameter in its API with a new type search parameter.
Google notes developers who have been using the Nearby Search, Text Search or Radar Search type parameters in the Places API will be affected.
Type search is also being updated to support establishment, food, health and general contractor queries.
Developers are also discouraged from using multiple types with the new API. Google is allowing multiple type requests to return values until February of 2017, but it’s likely best to adhere to Google’s best practices on this one.
