Google for Nonprofits moves beyond the US, launching in the UK starting with England and Wales

Google for Nonprofits moves beyond the US, launching in the UK starting with England and Wales

Google has announced that it’s taking its nonprofits programme to the UK, marking the first time the initiative has been made available in full outside the US.

Starting initially in England and Wales, Google for Nonprofits is a program that offers not-for-profit organizations free access to Google Apps; a special version of AdWords called Google Grants which includes up to $10,000 a month in advertising; ‘donate now’ buttons for YouTube accounts, and special tools for Google Earth and Google Maps.

Interestingly, it doesn’t seem to include One Today, a mobile fundraising platform for Android that Google started testing earlier this year, and which forms part of the Google for Nonprofits program in the US.

Earlier this year, Google enlisted the help of Tim Berners-Lee and Richard Branson to help the Internet giant find the UK’s top social entrepreneurs. This constituted part of Google’s Global Impact Challenge, which was seeking applicants to submit a technology-based project with “the potential to change society on a large scale.” These winners were announced last month, with four UK charities receiving £500,000, as well as mentoring, to help drive their projects forward.

Though Google for Nonprofits is currently only open in the US, England and Wales, it does offer individual elements of the initiative in other countries – you can see a full list of this here.

If you work for a nonprofit in England or Wales, you can apply to join the program as of now and, once approval is given, you’ll gain access to the above-mentioned benefits.
