Google knows it all, but it’s still not sure about the correct date of its birthday

Google knows it all, but it’s still not sure about the correct date of its birthday

Google has officially joined the 18+ club as today the tech giant is celebrating 18 years since Larry Page and Sergey Brin initially founded the company back on September 27, 1998.

Still, it seems the internet titan isn’t entirely sure about the exact date it was formed.

That’s right. While since 2006 Google has consistently celebrated its birthday on September 27, the year before that it had it on September 26.

Strangely, the tech giant announced its birthday on September 7 in 2004 and September 8 the year before that.

Things get even messier when we take a look at Google’s official company history, which lists its corporate birthday on September 4.

Meanwhile, the idea for the search engine was originally conceived back in 1996 when Page and Brin were still students at Stanford University.

The tech titan acknowledged the confusion back in 2013, admitting it had celebrated its birthday on four different dates in the past. Since then, the company seems to have firmly stuck to September 27.

Still, while we poke fun at the confusion, Google has done great things over the 18 years it has been active. The company is currently second only to Apple with a market capitalisation of $540 billion.

Happy birthday, Google. Keep it up, we’re proud of you.
