Google has announced the application deadlines for the next five Kansas City neighborhoods in its Fiber TV and Internet service rollout, kicking off in 2013.
Just to recap, Google Fiber finally went live in Kansas just over a month ago, having first announced it was getting into the Internet Service Provider (ISP) game back in July. The roll-out started in Dub’s Dread and Hanover Heights, with more homes receiving the service with each passing day.
While Dub’s Dread is still being finalized for coverage, based on pre-registration results the next five so-called “fiberhoods” on its hitlist – as we already knew – are Piper Schools, Delaware Ridge, Painted Hills, Open Door and Arrowhead.
Google has now announced the full application deadlines below, for residents looking to get on the Google Fiber scheme, with installations starting shortly after the date listed.
- Piper Schools: Choose your plan by January 31, 2013
- Delaware Ridge: Choose your plan by February 14, 2013
- Painted Hills: Choose your plan by February 28, 2013
- Open Door: Choose your plan by February 28, 2013
- Arrowhead: Choose your plan by March 7, 2013
Furthermore, Google has actually announced that a few of the neighborhoods’ boundaries have been expanded slightly, to open it for more people. You can see the new boundaries here.
Residents can visit the Google Fiber portal now, and for $70 a month you get “gigabit Internet service”, which is roughly 100 times faster than your standard cable modem. Throw in an extra $50 a month and you get cable-TV-like-service too.
Next up for Kansas City, thought to be launching around spring time 2013, will be: Plaza at Speedway, Stony Point, Melrose, Rainbow Ridge, Pomeroy, Southwest Boulevard, Tauromee Avenue, Frank Rushton, Washington High School, Central Middle School, North KU Med, Bethel, Community College, Alvey Park, Grinter, White Church, Eisenhower Park and Grant.
