For the sixth consecutive month the Xbox 360 is the best selling console

Riding on the coattails of the explosively popular Kinect, the Xbox 360 had a massive November, selling just shy of 1.4 million consoles. In terms of dollars spent, the Xbox 360 console is currently commanding 50% of ‘spend’ in the console market.

To put the 1.4 million unit number in perspective, in October the Xbox 360 was the top-selling console as well, moving just 325,000 units.

What contributed to that massive jump in sales? Aside from the impending massive holiday selling season and the Kinect coming out (putting the consoles in the spotlight around the world), Microsoft capitalized on the Kinect’s launch and Christmas sales cycle by releasing a console bundled with the Kinect for a single price.

How successful has the Kinect been thus far? We have two data points that are illuminating: 10 days into its release 1 million Kinects were sold, and after 25 days on sale some 2.5 million Kinects had been sold. In other words, 100,000 Kinects were sold a day for at least nearly 4 weeks. We expect that the gadget’s momentum remains strong.
