Focus by Firefox is a content blocker for iOS 9 that doesn’t work with Firefox

Focus by Firefox is a content blocker for iOS 9 that doesn’t work with Firefox

Mozilla has launched a content blocker for Apple devices running iOS 9 or newer, but in a cruel twist, hasn’t been allowed to make it work with its own Firefox browser on the platform.

Instead, if you want to use Focus by Firefox to block the sort of trackers used for ads, social sites and analytics, you’ll have to be using Safari.

“Currently, Focus by Firefox only works with Safari, not Firefox for iOS. This was not our choice—Apple has chosen to make content blocking unavailable to third-party browsers on iOS. We are exploring how we can provide this feature on Firefox for iOS and will deliver it as soon as it’s possible,” the organization said.

Once installed, you’re guided through the setup process of configuring which trackers to block – it draws from Disconnect’s open source blocklist, which is the same trackers stopped by Firefox on the desktop when Tracking Protection is enabled.

At the time of writing, the app doesn’t appear to be live on the App Store, but it should be before the day is out.
