Flipboard updates iOS app with new profile pages, SMS sharing and ‘Friends’ category

Flipboard updates iOS app with new profile pages, SMS sharing and ‘Friends’ category

Flipboard has just released an interesting new version of its iOS application (via @Appsfire), just a few days after bringing its Android app up to speed.

The new iOS app, version 2.0.2, gives users refreshed profile pages that offer insights into their readership and curation activities. In addition, the app now lets users discover magazines created by their friends more easily with a new ‘Friends’ category in the Content Guide.

Two weeks after launching Flipboard 2.0 with a user-generated magazine feature at the end of March, the company announced that readers had already created over 500,000 curated publications, so it seems like this new feature is really striking a chord with Flipboard users.

The share menu has also been updated in Flipboard’s updated iOS app, giving users swifter access to their social networks and access options. The application now enables users to share stories or entire magazines with others via SMS text messaging.

The app update also brings some minor new features, such as the ability to save images directly to an iPhone or iPad’s Camera roll, and better navigation for Google Reader RSS folders.

You can download the app via the link below – it’s still as free as ever.

The company boasts well over 50 million readers.
