    Earning a decent wage as a freelance photographer can be tough. To help talented camera aficionados put food on the table, Yahoo today unveiled a new ‘Marketplace‘ service that will connect Flickr users with photo editors, designers and agencies.

    Spotted by TechCrunch, the new Flickr Marketplace is run by a “curatorial” team that aims to connect users with global media outlets, industry press and anyone else that might want to license their work. Details are scarce at the moment, but in a blog post Yahoo said its team would be constantly scouring Flickr for suitable images and then reaching out to photographers via Flickr Mail.

    Yahoo is also looking for users that can have their work featured on the Flickr blog and some of its other online properties, such as Yahoo News, Sports and Travel. “We’ll also try to connect you with original photo assignments,” Liz Lapp, a curator and content manager for Flickr said.

    Earlier this year, 500px launched a storefront initiative called Prime. The company initially offered its users 30 percent of each sale, but the figure was later increased to 70 percent for its formal release.
