The FIA, which governs motor sport worldwide, has named Amazon Web Services (AWS) its official partner for AI, cloud computing, machine learning and cloud infrastructure.

The deal was announced today, and it covers every level of the sport, from club racing up to Formula 1.

Under the agreement, AWS will help shape the technical rules for the next generation of Formula 1 cars.

The FIA already runs its aerodynamic simulations on AWS computers. This lets its engineers test how air moves around a car without building any parts.

As a result, the FIA said it can write rules faster while cutting costs and its environmental impact. AWS will also give the FIA’s engineers AI tools to help draft rules on safety, speed and sustainability.

The deal also builds on the FIA’s Digital Licensing Platform, which AWS developed and hosts. Launched in 2025, it lets drivers, officials and volunteers apply for motor sport licences online, while national sporting authorities (ASNs) use it to manage them.

The platform is now reaching more ASNs, with support for more languages, links to FIA University and licence renewals. Next, the FIA plans to add event management and other features for volunteers and officials.

In addition, more of the FIA’s business applications and hosted services will move to AWS over the coming years. The FIA said the work supports its goal of doubling the number of people who take part in motor sport.

“We can make it simpler for drivers, officials and volunteers to take part,” said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA.

AWS also joins the FIA Global Partner Programme. Through it, the company becomes an official partner of the annual FIA Awards and of the FIA Sustainable Innovation Series, an event platform run alongside the FIA World Championships.

The FIA deal is separate from the one AWS holds with Formula 1, the sport’s commercial rights holder, whose cloud provider it has been since 2018. It also adds to a run of AI partnerships in F1 this year and to other large AWS AI deals.

“Motor sport is one of the most demanding and data-rich environments in the world,” said Kristin Shaff, Global Director of Events, Sports and Entertainment at AWS.
