Facebook woos developers with simplified registration flow for integrating apps

Facebook today announced it has simplified the developer experience for integrating apps with the social network. You can try out the new app registration flow now: quickstarts.

In the original app-creation flow, developers had to find and download the latest SDKs, create a Facebook App ID, enable the platform they were building for, copy and paste certain information between the docs and their development environment, plus read documentation at the same time.

The new app registration flow adds interactive guides (only display the relevant steps for a given app) to lead developers through the process for iOS, Android, Websites and Canvas. SDK downloads are included inline, as is code for copying and pasting into your app, and relevant documentation is shown as you go.

Facebook says the new flow will become the default experience when integrating a new app, or extending your Facebook integration to a new platform, “over the next few weeks.” The company also plans to broaden the new guides to include more platforms (Windows Phone, Page Tabs, and so on), as well as extend the steps to encompass more of its products.
