Facebook announced a mobile update for its popular Comments Box product used by many popular blogs and media sites. Up until now, commenting on a site using this feature from your smartphone was quite tedious, requiring you to zoom in to navigate.
Luckily, the upgrade requires no changes on your end if you’re using it currently. When the plugin detects a mobile browser, it will automatically switch over to the new, smoother experience.
On the success of the Comment Box plugin, Facebook had this to say:
We’re continuing to see media sites of all sizes add the Comments Box, including the York Daily Record (York, PA), The USA Today Science Fair blog, and Gannett sites such as The Statesman Journal (Salem, OR), Burlington Free Press (Burlington, VT), and Detroit Free Press.
Paul C. Grzella, general manager of Gannett companies MyCentralJersey.com, the Home News Tribune and Courier News wrote, “By holding commenters accountable for their actions through Facebook, the hope is that this will help keep the conversation interesting and stimulating for the rest of us.”
A recent study by commenting platform Disqus suggests that anonymous commenters, or ones that use pseudonyms, tend to interact more than those faced with using their real identity. Despite that, Facebook continues to see installs climb.
What do you think about commenting systems that require you to use your real identity? Tell us in the comments!
