Facebook Messenger just made it a little bit easier to book an UberPOOL ride.
It works like this: Open up a messenger conversation, click on the three-dot menu button, and select ‘Request a Ride’. You’ll then have the option to request a ride just for yourself, or for you and your friend. Request the ride, and you’re good to go.
It’s not much different than simply ordering from the Uber app, but it does give you the added benefit of being able to quickly share your ride information with your friends along with location information to let them know you’re on the way.
Perhaps more importantly, you needn’t even bother to install the Uber app, which is handy if you only need rides occasionally.
Still, a much more useful implementation would be allowing you to specify your carpool partner is so you could easily pick up a friend on the way to an event or movie.
Messenger is the perfect platform for that kind of selective carpooling, particularly given Facebook patents show the company has already considered using its Events pages for setting up carpools. Here’s to hoping its an idea Facebook and Uber are seriously considering.
