Facebook launches redesigned app for Android with 2x faster photos and better notifications

Facebook has today announced a new app for Android that it claims is faster and easier to use. The app allows you to view photos and albums up to two times faster, as well as making it easier to share, caption and comment on your Android device.

The messages and notifications have moved to the top of the screen from the bottom, and they persist across all screens. These are presented in a pop-over window reminiscent of many iOS apps, especially on the iPad.

The app has also duplicated the ‘slide from the side’ navigation that exists in the iOS version of the app. This is the same navigation setup that we’ve seen on the Facebook app for iPad and the new Path app. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more of this, as it eliminates the need for a ‘tab’ bar across the bottom of every app.

You can grab the app now on the Android Market or update your existing app.
