Facebook announced today that its Facebook Gifts service is now available to everyone in the US, and that as part of its public rollout, the company has now enabled users to make charitable contributions to a number of non-profit partners.
Starting today, users can donate to the Robin Hood Foundation’s Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, adding to its other non-profit partners including Blue Star Families, Girls Inc. or Donor’s Choose, which helps boost support for charities that may be supporting a friend of member of the family.
For those over 21, Facebook has also added a Wine gift selection, complimenting its existing Food & Drink, Home & Kitchen, Baby & Kids categories.
Over the course of November, Facebook rapidly rolled out support for Gifts in its mobile apps, adding Gift buttons to every user’s profile (in the US for now) to make it easier to gift straight to a Facebook friends. Facebook now counts Fab, L’Occitane, Lindt, Dean & Deluca, Hulu Plus, Rdio, Pandora, Baby Gap, Brookstone amongst its partners, adding 100 more just a few weeks back.
Apple is also a high-profile partner for the company, adding iTunes digital gift cards (accompanied by recommendations on content that their friends can purchase) to the service. iTunes gifts can be purchased in $10, $15, $25 or $50 amounts and recommendations can include songs, albums, apps and movies.
