As much as I love Friendfeed, I’m a firm believer that the ‘feed-like’ backbone to the site is based on Facebook’s ‘news feed’. That is not to say that Friendfeed hasn’t improved on the concept and made it something which has clearly had a significant impact, winning Crunchies 2008 Startup of the Year thanks to the floods of devoted users.
Since Friendfeed’s launch, Facebook have integrated a number of different Friendfeed-like features. The first being the importing of various services into users feeds, the second being commenting for individual items posted onto their walls, the third and most recent looks set to be “likes”.
“Likes” are a huge portion of Friendfeed activity, in fact I would go as far as to say – the most used feature of the site next to ‘importing of service feeds’ of course.
The interesting part of this story is that the new feature was only spotted on a recently released video by Facebook describing how to integrate Facebook Connect. You can see the video below:
