    Online events and ticketing company Eventbrite has announced its gross ticket sales for the UK in 2011, and the figures are pretty impressive, doubling up on the previous year’s sales.

    Last year, Eventbrite chalked up £16,456,400 in ticket sales in the UK, dwarfing its 2010 sales of £8,834,590. From a global perspective, the number of events on the platform doubled (from 222,353 posted in 2010 to 458,207 in 2011), as did the number of tickets sold, from 11,004,743 to 20,798,509 last year.

    Eventbrite officially opened the doors to its London office in October 2011, accompanied by a local .co.uk domain, as the company ramped up its international efforts. Founded in 2006 by Kevin and Julia Hartz (CEO and President, respectively) and CTO Renaud Visage, the company has made significant headway in the ticketing industry with its technologically-driven approach to innovation.

    To mark this announcement, Eventbrite has created an interactive ‘2011 Year in Review’, an animated microsite that covers cities represented in Eventbrite’s 2011 listings (14,950), countries represented in Eventbrite’s 2011 listings (174), top 5 listings for the most eventful, gastronomic, social and techiest cities (London fares well), and a number of others.
