Ellen Pao has apologized to the Reddit community at large. In a Reddit post, the CEO openly admits the site has failed moderators in a big way, and promises improvements for tools, communication and search to help make life easier.

Pao wrote “we have apologized and made promises to you, the moderators and the community, over many years, but time and again, we haven’t delivered on them.”

Sadly, she didn’t quite mention what Reddit will do to make things better. A fix for tools is promised (though not detailed), and Pao mentioned a new “moderator advocate” role. There will also be the option for moderators to use an older version of Search to support “existing moderation workflows.”

Pao closes by saying “I know these are just words, and it may be hard for you to believe us.” The comments section of the post punctuates that line in a big way. It’s nice Pao is offering an apology, but the Reddit community at large is loudly calling for her job.
