eBay is currently down for many users in the UK and Europe, company is investigating [Update: Fixed!]

Online auction site eBay is completely inaccessible for many users in the UK according to uptime monitoring services and social media reports.

The problem, its tenth of the year according to the founder of Downdetector.co.uk Tom Sanders, is preventing people in the UK from accessing or logging into the site at all. Some users took to Twitter to complain about the situation and ask when a fix would be forthcoming. Users also confirmed that the Web platform and mobile apps are both affected.

While the problem does seem to be quite persistent (it’s been ongoing for more than an hour already), it also appears to be mostly localized to users attempting to log in from the UK – although it also seems to be affecting some users in France too, according to the map below from Isitdownrightnow.com

A spokesperson for eBay told TNW: “We are investigating reports that certain eBay features are intermittently unavailable or slow and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.” We’ll update you when we hear more.

Update 11:07BST: It seems the problem is more widespread than first thought – according to Twitter and DownDetector, it appears to be spreading to other parts of Europe.

Update 12:39 BST: It seems that a third-party connectivity provider could be to blame for the outages according to an updated statement from eBay.

eBay is aware that some users are experiencing problems accessing eBay in Europe.  We are doing all we can to investigate this issue including reviewing third party internet service provider access issues and we are working hard to put things right.  We cannot speculate on the cause of this issue whilst we are still investigating, but we will provide a further update as soon as possible.

In our own tests, we can also now access the site once again via ebay.co.uk, although some people are still reporting problems.

Update 13:09 BST: We’ve received another updated statement from an eBay spokesperson saying all users should now be able to access the site.

Some users experienced problems accessing eBay in Europe from 08.55am BST until approximately 12.40pm. Our technical experts immediately investigated potential causes including third party internet service provider access issues. All eBay sites are working normally and we are sorry for the inconvenience.

Update 13:54 BST: Despite reassurances from eBay (and being able to access it ourselves), some users are still reporting problems accessing the site.
