Dropbox partners with Deutsche Telekom to preload its app on Android devices in Europe

Dropbox partners with Deutsche Telekom to preload its app on Android devices in Europe

Dropbox has announced a partnership with Deutsche Telekom which it says will bring its service to “millions” of the European operator’s customers.

Deutsche will pre-load the Dropbox app on “most” Android devices that it sells across Central and East Europe from October. It says it will also be “helping” customers on iOS devices to get to know the cloud-based storage service, though it’s not clear whether these efforts will extend beyond a marketing and communications push.

Deutsche has over 140 million subscribers across 14 markets in Europe, so the deal is sure to get Dropbox more visibility in this part of the world. But that’s not quite all: Dropbox, which has over 300 million registered users, says we can expect another announcement from the two companies in the coming months.

Update: GigaOm reports that Deutsche Telekom has said the partnership will not cover Germany. We’ve reached out to the company for confirmation The company tells us:

Android devices available at the company’s shops in Albania, Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Slovakia will feature the Dropbox app setup in the phone’s startup wizard, giving customers a true out-of-the-box experience. Customers using an iPhone or Android devices purchased elsewhere will also be given easier access to Dropbox.
