DooID: About.me alternative complete with privacy options and mobile optimization

DooID: About.me alternative complete with privacy options and mobile optimization

When you thought you possibly couldn’t see any more About.me clones that stand out from the crowd, DooID comes along with some pretty interesting features, which certainly make the site worth a look.

With a free account, you can create an attractive landing page for yourself, complete with a downloadable vCard, links to 10 online profiles, and a limited mobile version of the site.

If you’re willing to pay $5 a month, you get a slew of additional features, including custom domain support, SEO settings, unlimited online profiles, a more elaborate mobile version, themes, Google analytics and more.

Like About.me and countless other sites, DooID makes it incredibly easy to throw together an entire site in a matter of minutes, without any technical or design knowledge whatsoever. You can easily upload a background image and profile image, select your font and theme of choice.

The 💜 of EU tech

The latest rumblings from the EU tech scene, a story from our wise ol' founder Boris, and some questionable AI art. It's free, every week, in your inbox. Sign up now!

As for content, you can add a bio, a video bio, contact information, and links to your online profiles.

The final product is a slick online profile, featuring a vCard and optional QR code and lifestream page.

When hovering over an online profile, such as Twitter, 500px or Flickr, you can see the latest update, photo or post that’s been shared.

How does DooID set itself apart from similar services?

Appearance & Layout: To start with, DooID has native filters which you can apply to images that are uploaded as a background or profile photo. Filters include black and white, sepia, and more.

In addition to filters, DooID also comes with a set of free and pro themes, making it easy to jazz up your page at the click of a button.

Content:  The site brings a long list of 60 online services which you can plug right into your profile, which is far more than we’ve seen elsewhere.

With About.me, for example, you can add as many services as you like, but it will appear as a plain link, and that certainly doesn’t look as aesthetically pleasing as buttons. With About.me, users can add up to 21 services as buttons.

With DooID’s free accounts, however, you can only list up to 10, so if you really want to get the most out of this feature it will cost you $5 a month. For many people, however, 10 accounts will no doubt be more than enough.

Professional features: You can upload your resume as a PDF to the site, turning DooID into yet another great tool for freelancers or job seekers to create a visual presence for themselves online.

Another nice professional touch is the ability to share your contact information in a vCard. You can add both private and business contact details, including email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, messaging services and websites.

Privacy: One of DooID’s best features has to be its privacy options. You can choose to keep certain protected. So for example, if you want to share your mobile number with clients or prospective employers, you can add it to the site, but only those with your password can see that information. This feature is available for both free and pro accounts.

Mobile page: The QR code, which takes you to the mobile version of your DooID profile, isn’t much use on the page itself, but you can save the QR code to share where you want to, so that visitors can easily access your mobile profile. The code could go on a business card, CV or other physical documents where a quick, easy link could be beneficial.

So while About.me gets you some pretty impressive features for free, if you’re willing to spend $5 a month, you could get a great, modern alternative to the traditional business card, which might just be worth your while.
