Emoji account for nearly half of the comments and captions on Instagram, but perhaps you don’t even need it to illustrate the message in each photo.
#emojisinthewild, a video project by Daniel Mckee, ponders the question: Does life imitate emoji, or vice versa? The 5-minute video crowdsources a series of Instagram photos that resemble the hundreds of emoji available on our smartphones.
The animals, flags and food emoji are pretty self-explanatory, but once you get to the emoticons, the video focuses on things around us that resemble faces if you squint hard enough. No comment on the 🍆 emoji’s, ahem, alternative resemblance, however.
