Digital publisher Safari Books Online buys PubFactory’s Electronic Platform

Digital publisher Safari Books Online has purchased PubFactory’s Electronic Platform for an undisclosed amount.

Effective since December 31, 2012, the sale makes it the owner of this proprietary software solution, which helps publishers develop scalable and semantically-rich electronic libraries.

Following the deal, PubFactory will keep on serving its existing clients, while its employees will join Safari Books. As for its developer, iFactory, it will continue to operate separately as RDW Group‘s interactive division.

The announcement was made jointly today by RDW Group’s president James Pontarelli and SafariBooks CEO, Andrew Savikas, who commented on the deal:

“For some time now, we’ve admired the PubFactory team’s expertise in building powerful web-based systems for delivering mixed content like books, videos, journals, and reference databases. Their platform will be a robust complement to our growing stable of technology for distributing reference and learning products online.”

As you may know, Safari Books was created in 2001 by O’Reilly Media and Pearson Education. Its library initially focused on technology books from these two publishers, and has since then expanded to include business and digital media titles from over 100 partners.
