Diaspora, the anti-Facebook, breaks the $200,000 mark.

In April, four students of New York University set out to create Diaspora, an “anti-Facebook” sort of platform, which will aim to provide the same functionality as the popular social network. But unlike Facebook, it will run on open-source software, without depending on centralized servers.

The four students used Kickstarter, a fundraising Web site and the goal was to reach $10,000 by the 1st June to cover summer expenses developing the app. With under an hour to go, Diaspora has raised a total of $200,647 collected from several donors including Facebook CEO himself, Mark Zuckerberg.

Lets hope the team (below) with a supposed idea problem can at least get their hands on a decent name, domain and site now. Get to work fellas!
