D1G.com snaps-up another Yahoo! executive

Bassel Ojjeh, who previously held the post of Senior Vice President of Engineering at Yahoo!, has recently joined the star-studded team at D1G.com, a leading social content and video sharing site in the Middle East, as an investor and a board member.

Mr. Ojjeh, who managed some of the worlds largest data-sets while at Yahoo!, is not the first high-profile executive to join D1G, which has grown to attract approximately 3 Million Visitors per month. In fact, he isn’t even the first Senior Yahoo! Executive to join the company this year!

In June, Dr. Usama Fayyad, who had previously served as Yahoo!’s Chief Data Officer and Executive President of Research & Strategic Data Solutions, joined the company as its Executive Chairman.

It’s not the first time the  pair work together. They spent years together at both Yahoo! and Microsoft, in Dr. Fayyad’s own words:

“I have been working with Bassel for the past 5 years at Yahoo! and before that for a decade at Microsoft and as partners in two high-tech start-ups we co-founded in the U.S. I am delighted to be working with him again to help grow and scale d1g.com,” he said, “Both Bassel and I strongly believe in d1g.com’s business model and we believe the Internet will increase in relevance and reach in the coming years.”

Mr. Ojjeh, for his part, said: “I am very excited to be part of this company. I believe this is the right time to be in this space. The market is growing rapidly; more users are jumping online, more advertisers are spending online, and more people are buying online.” He continued, “I am looking forward to working with the management team to successfully scale the business while ensuring operational efficiency and business relevance.”

D1G also run 7asnaa.com, a website targeting women, which it acquired earlier this year and a host of other sites including 66g and yasater.

The portal was established by Majied Qassem, a serial entrepreneur and pioneer, who was a founding partner at Estarta Solutions, a leading technology company based in Jordan, ONEWORLD, and Arabia.com which was one of the region’s early internet success stories.

With such a star-studded team, I believe that this will be one company to watch.
