CoTweet founders launch Seesaw for iPhone, an app that gets your friends’ opinion when you need it

CoTweet founders launch Seesaw for iPhone, an app that gets your friends’ opinion when you need it

The last time Aaron Gotwalt, Jesse Engle, and Kyle Sollenberger worked together was when they founded the social media marketing platform CoTweet. It eventually was acquired by email service provider Exact Target. But the team has reunited to start a new venture called Seesaw and today it has launched its iPhone app.

Billed as a service that can help you make a decision quickly, the idea is that users can share photos of their choices through either text messages, Twitter, or Facebook and have friends share their opinions. Often, when we’re shopping or making tough decisions, we may rely on the insights of those closest to us, something that Seesaw wishes to capitalize on.

The company says that once a poll has been created, a user’s friends may vote and those results and opinions will be displayed instantly. In addition, Seesaw also allows users to discover dilemmas other people are having as well.

While Seesaw is an interesting company,  it’s can’t be ignored that the decision making app space has been active recently. The company is competing against services like Polar and Thumb. But perhaps what makes it different from other services is that it focuses on the friends aspect. Instead of submitting a dilemma out into the social ether, Seesaw allows you to share the poll with friends and so you get a better understanding of what you should do. After all, you’re more inclined to trust your friends over strangers, right?

As All Things D reported, Seesaw’s social network is based on users’ mobile phone contacts, which could help make making decisions much easier. Gotwalt says that what his team is doing is more than just polls — it’s “about decision making with the input of close friends.”

Right now, Gotwalt says that the company isn’t actively working on monetization of its product. He says that there’s a lot of business value to be found around influence data and purchase intent, but for now, the focus is on building a great user experience.

Last November, Seesaw announced that it raised a $1.1 million seed round from investors, including Feestyle Capital, Baseline, First Round Capital, Betaworks, Klout CEO Joe Fernandez, and Google’s Hunter Walk, and Desiree Gruber.

Seesaw is currently available for the iPhone in the Apple App Store. An Android version is in the company’s roadmap, but no timeline for its release was given.
