The Motorola Droid (or Milestone if you live in Europe) has enjoyed huge sales since its launch in October of last year, so much so the telecommunications giant is developing a faster, more feature rich model to succeed the original handset, giving it the name: Droid 2.
The Droid 2 features a physical keyboard and will sport a 1GHz processor – apps will open faster and it allow for swifter navigation. The one question that everyone wants to know was whether the Droid 2 would ship with Android 2.2 (Froyo) on its launch.
If two new screenshots are correct, the answer is yes and it should be the first Android handset to physically ship with the new firmware – many other handsets have received OTA updates previously.
We’ve stumbled upon two independent screenshots that will pretty much confirm matters:
The above screenshot from Droid-Life shows the Droid 2 running Android 2.2, the image below from Phandroid showing Verizon’s stock system where you can see the “OS Version” clear as day.
Motorola will have quite the lineup when the Droid 2 launches on August 12th, adding to the already very successful release of the Droid X.
Would you buy the Droid 2 knowing it has Froyo out of the box?
