We recently wrote about how TechHub was helping to support London’s burgeoning startup scene. Well, one of the companies that calls TechHub home has just announced a major milestone, in that it has signed-up its one-millionth customer.
360Amigo was launched in May 2010, by a group of friends who had grown increasingly frustrated by sluggish PCs. The company has since built a significant user-base for its system speedup utility, software designed to improve the performance of computer systems. The software is available in more than 30 languages, and I’m told that the company hopes to treble its number of users within the next 12 months.
The tool is essentially a system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from systems and cleans registry errors, thus enabling computers to run faster whilst also freeing up hard disk space. Additionally, it cleans traces of users’ online activities such as Internet history, cookies and unused files.
360Amigo is self-funded and has been profitable since launch. Whilst the company was reluctant to reveal exact turnover figures, I’m told it’s “less than £1m”, but it expects to treble its turnover this year.
Its London business development activities are being led by chairman, Rupert Cook, a technology entrepreneur. Douglas Clark, a technology location adviser, is also working to develop the company’s business connections. Cook says:
“A fast internet connection and a slick-running PC are vital to doing business today and we help to extend the life of individual machines, saving money and improving productivity. We estimate we have increased the efficiency of our 1 million users’ computers by up to 300%.”
360Amigo has existed in various locations thus far, and it has now settled on London as the base for future operations following a Europe-wide site search. And with London now confirmed as home, the firm is looking to build on its success so far. Cook says:
“We are at an exciting stage of development and want to draw on the tech buzz and global links of London, where we are seeking to work with new partners and funders. We aim to continue developing our existing software, introduce new products and develop partnerships with like-minded companies.”
